Serving as partner and designer with my husband, my architectural background in Historical Preservation has been realized and though I have yet to restore the barn of my dreams, I have enjoyed several projects where the research and collaboration have resulted in amazing restorations.
In addition to running the day to day office operations and design projects, I am a full time mom to our two amazing children, Gabriella and Harrison. There is little free time but when time allows, I spend it wisely pursuing the passions that the early years left little time for. Along the way I have re-discovered the talents passed onto me by prior generations; those who grew their own food, made their own olive oil and soap from the trees they grew, and made the family meal an event that everyone participated in. I delight in taking advantage of the abundance of free gifts my neighborhood offers each season by picking wild blackberries for jam and desserts, wild flowers for bouquets, and expanding my own small gardens with herbs and vegetables that will flourish in our short Seattle summers.
I have also indulged myself with my passion for furniture restoration, painting, architectural salvage and sewing; an art that was passed on to me by my mother and grandmother at the age of 10. I have restored many pieces of furniture and they are some of my favorite things in our home. I am always excited for new opportunities to help make a house a home and know first hand that some of the most treasured pieces are those often found by chance and sometimes for next to nothing. If it has a place in your heart, it has a place in your home.
In 1998, I founded my construction business under the name Aaron Vanek Construction. A year later, with my wife and infant daughter we purchased our first home in the LunaPark neighborhood of West Seattle. Rumor has it, that this neighborhood was founded by Italian immigrants hired to work at the nearby steel mill in the early 1900's. My home, a 1907, dilapidated diamond-in-the-rough and the eclectic neighborhood that surrounded it, prompted me to rename the company in 1999 after the neighborhood in which we reside to this day.
I love old things. They have integrity and a story. I love giving them new life so that their story continues rather than disappears. I love re-purposing, restoring and reclaiming materials from a different era. If I can't reclaim it, I can usually re-create it . I love doing custom wood work and trim, so over the years my home has become somewhat as eclectic as the neighborhood itself. I never guessed that my first home would become my forever home. All the stories are in-tact, being added to, in these four walls that are ever changing...
After spending seven years as an employee under the tutelage of various General Contractors, learning the trade and making myself an invaluable asset, I realized I was ready to start my own company. And in 1996 after the birth of our daughter, I decided to open my own business as a way to express my talents, create better job security and raise the standard of living for my family. When we launched, we had very limited resources and contacts but through our hard work, quality craftsmanship, friendly professional service and determination we have made many long standing relationships while continuing to build knowledge, experience & equipment to do the projects we are awarded with today. Some of our well known clients include award winning architect; Roger Newell, Constructive Energy, LLC & L.C. Jergens, all known throughout Seattle for high end, quality residential and commercial work.
Our clients are very important to us, we have worked on many detailed & complicated projects as well as modest ones and look forward to being challenged by the projects a potential customer may have in mind. I look forward to helping you complete your vision!
